National Theatre Wales announce the programme for their first year of shows today - and so now I can say that I’ll be writing a play for them. Here are some things I know about it -
1. It will be called LOVE STEALS US FROM LONELINESS.
2. It will involve songs.
3. It will be on in October 2010.
4. It will NOT be a dramatisation of real events in Bridgend.
5. It will NOT, despite what Mark Lawson might say on Radio Four, it will NOT be a drama about a ‘suicide cult’. Idiot.
Here are some things I don’t know about the play -
1. Where exactly it will be on. It will be somewhere in Bridgend, but as Bridgend has no theatre, we’ll have to find somewhere and turn it into a performance space. We were going to try for the old Embassy cinema, but that will probably be demolished by next autumn.
2. What exactly will happen in the play, who it will be about, what the story will be, whether it will have a story.
